X-Wing Hoth Themed Board WIP Update

Hoth Battle Board for X-Wing Update

Hi guys, this evening after watching a recording of the most Excellent Ripper street from BBC 1 (If you have not yet seen it you really must!) i thought i would share in my Hoth themed DIY project update.

The Imperial AT-AT Walkers at the Battle of Ho...
The Imperial AT-AT Walkers at the Battle of Hoth were created using go motion photography. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This evening consisted of putting the first layer of "Snow" on the board. This "Snow" is woodland scenics "Soft Flake snow" or something like that..

The first job consisted of finding the things i would need to accomplish said project, The boards, a pump spray bottle, some PVA glue and of course the Snow itself.

Then after deciding i did not want to glue Snow to the table top, i put a waterproof protective covering down, or what i like to call, "opened up bin liner."

Then using my Alchemical wizardry, i concocted an amazing mixture, PVA mixed with water, to be later sprayed onto the boards.

The boards were then sprayed with the secret PVA and water mix

Then the snow was sprinkled on, much like putting salt on your chips. (Actually if you put this much salt on your chips you would probably suffer a heart attack or two!)

The boards were then spread around the room on whatever was to hand (Chairs in this case) for them to dry.

After realising it was going to take ages to dry, and needing the chairs to sit on, the boards were moved to a new location.

Next up, another layer of snow!

How are your X-wing boards coming along? Have you made one yet?

Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game, Hoth Battle Board Update

 X-Wing, Hoth Battle Board Update.

Hoth Hangar

Hi guys, i have been doing a little more work on my X-wing miniatures game Hoth Battle Board,

Unluckily for me i was trying to do this with a sore burn on my hand. Ouch!

Burnt Hand

So far all i had managed to do was find four boards to make a 3 foot by 3 foot square and then cover them in a little filler for texture.

Board ready for sanding and removal of sellotape

Well now the filler has dried and i can move on to the next stage.

All i had to do was peel of that sellotape i put round the edges of the boards and then sand the excess filler off.
Sellotape removed!

Luckily i had a big roll of 80 grit sandpaper laying around in the cupboard for the last 60 or so years and finally i get to use it!

Sandpaper, the bane of DIY

Snow dust all over the floor!

After sanding down the boards for what felt like an eternity, i am now ready to apply the Snow!

Boards all ready for the snow to be added

Have any of you guys played X-Wing yet? What do you think?

X-Wing, Hoth Battle Board Update.

Hi guys, last night i made a small start on my upcoming Hoth Battle board for use with my X wing games.

I managed to "aquire" four 18 inch square boards, thus when put together i will have a 3' board.

I then put sellotape all the way round so that when i putr the filler on top, i wouldnt stick them all togther!

Next up i laid them all out on the table with newspaper underneath and proceeded to smear a bit of filler over them to give the boards a little texture. I didnt want to go crazy with the texture as i wanted a relatively flat board, the undulations can come with the later terrain pieces!

Alas when i opened my tub of filler (its from focus, remember them?) it was super hard and lumpy, nothing a little hot water wouldnt fix after a good mixing!

So then i spread it all over the board, being careful to keep it all nice and flat.

There are a couple of small areas that have a couple of lumps in, but i shall sort that out with some sand paper later!

New Project for X-Wing: Battle of Hoth

Hi guys, as you may already know, i recently purchased the X wing game by FFG and am a big fan of it. I have since decided i want to build my own board for this as its only played on a 3x3 board, as opposed to the usual 6x4 so this keeps work to a minimum already!

A lot of the boards i see made for this are based on the surface of the death star, which i was originally goin gto do, but then i remembered Hoth! I going to go out on a limb and ASSUME FFG will release a Hoth expansion in the future sometime and get the jump on it now by building my own Snow themed board!

What can i stick on it for scenery you ask? Well in the movies theres those little turrets, perhaps the Shield that the Imperials are attacking with the AT-AT's and the little trench lines, theres also the IUON Cannon but im not sure of the size of that thing...

I think i need to get some scale pictures of these things!

Oh and of course Echo Base itself needs to be built, even if it is just a big door!

Stay Tuned for more updates on this project!
